Organizing Glass Production Packing On The Base Of Local
Inexpensive Non-Traditional Minerals
Description of the proposal:
The purpose of the proposal is establishment of a modern plant producing diverse types of high quality glass packing, consumers of which will be wine, liqueur, vodka, non-alcohol and beer producers, food processing companies.
Description of product – bottles and jars of 0,25-1.0 liter of various shapes and colors.

Justification of the proposal:
There is the lack of conditioned minerals for glass packing in Georgia and importing makes production more expensive. At the same time, in the south-eastern region of the country, there is quite an extensive deposit of barite-complex metal minerals. Using these rhyolites makes it possible to partially or fully replace standard components (quartz sand, limestone, chalk, dolomite, sodium, salt cake, coloring fillers) of composition of the glass for packing (patent N341, 31.03.94). Only calcined sodium will be imported. At the same time, the cost of socium will be significantly reduced due to high content of alkali in rhyolites. Experimental boilings of glass of various compositions using rhyolites have been conducted in a lab. High quality glass has been obtained. Usage of rhyolite will significantly reuce the cost price of the final product, as the cost of imported expensive components will be dramatically reduced. Also, usage of calcined sodium will be cut by 30-50% compared to standard technologies.

Implementation of the proposal:
Presently in Georgia there is only the Ksani glass packing production plant I functioning, which can not ensure satisfaction of increasing demand for this product. A new plant producing glass packing can be constructed in the south-eastern region of the country, which will facilitate development of local infrastructure and employment of local population or in any other place in the country, which is supplied by electricity and communication.
Estimated cost:
The cost of construction of the plant producing glass packing is estimated at 7 mln USD with the production capacity of 50 mln bottles. Estimated revenue of the plant during the first year of operation is 1,8 mln USD.
